Ellensburg wins team title, Ike's Loeser sisters dominate Yakima Valley swim championships

Prosser's Kenna Camp competes in the 200 yard freestyle at the Yakima Valley Swim Championships Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, at Lions Pool in Yakima, Wash.

Ellensburg swim coach Chezla Madson worried the closure of Central Washington's pool and moving practices to 5:30 a.m. might hurt her team's numbers this season.

Instead, more than 20 Bulldogs proved their dedication by showing up every morning and a talented freshman class led by Harper Williams took them to a new level. That depth along with great races by Williams and senior Macey Holloway carried Ellensburg to its first Yakima Valley Championship title since 2016 on Saturday at Lions Pool, despite dominant performances by defending champion Eisenhower's Loeser sisters.

"We had a lot of best times, additional district qualifiers," Bulldogs coach Chezla Madson said. "Super proud of everybody."

Williams won the 100 free by five seconds and finished a close second to Zillah's Kellee Muffett in a fast 100 backstroke race while Holloway swam a season-best 1:02 to win the 100 fly before after capturing second with another season-best in the 50 free. Ellensburg posted two top seven finishers in seven of 11 events and closed out the meet by swimming to a comfortable win in the 400 free relay.

The Loesers won six events, including the 200 medley and 200 free relays featuring all three sisters. Sophomore Reed Loeser cruised to wins in the 200 and 500 free while senior Adelaide Loeser touched the wall well before anyone else in both the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke of her last YV championships.

"It's sad because I really love this meet," said Adelaide Loeser, who holds a 4A state qualifying time in the 100 butterfly. "I'm going to miss swimming with (my sisters) so much. I like the Loeser trio we've got going on."

She's talking to multiple schools about swimming in college next year, but first she's looking forward to accomplishing many more goals with the Cadets and her sisters Reed and Cora, who posted top three finishes in the 100 fly and 100 back. Adelaide believes Ike could capture a district title while qualifying at least two and maybe even three relays at state in Federal Way, where she's looking to achieve lofty time goals that could lead to top five finishes in the 200 IM and 100 fly.

The Bulldogs topped Ike by 31 points, and Madson said they only eased off a bit at Friday's practice, so they still felt tired and should be on track to swim even faster at districts and state. Ellensburg's dominated the CWAC all season but will of course face stiff competition at the district meet from defending champion Pullman.

"I think that really just reinforces all of the work and time they've been putting in this season," Ellensburg coach Chezla Madson said. "I hope it fuels them going into postseason that we're at the right spot, exactly where we needed to be for today."

Team scores: Ellensburg 320, Eisenhower 289, West Valley 170, Prosser 169, Selah 123, East Valley 69, Naches Valley 48, Davis 43, Zillah 28, Toppenish 0, Grandview 0.
