Tech firm launches AI-voice fraud detection software

A Worcestershire-based company has launched new software to take on a rising threat.

FARx, the world's only fused-biometrics company, has unveiled its latest biometric technology designed to detect and block synthetic and cloned voices.

The tool, named FARx 2.0, addresses a growing challenge posed by AI-powered voice fraud.

Clive Summerfield, CEO of FARx, said: "This latest iteration of FARx is something we have been working on for a while now, with the aim to deliver an even more sophisticated, flexible biometric multi-factor authentication technology to users across a broad range of industries and applications.

"Legacy voice biometrics and traditional MFA systems are simply no longer enough to outsmart the new era of AI-powered threats."

Recent data shows that 35 per cent of UK businesses have been targeted by AI-driven fraud, up from 23 per cent in 2024.

Common tactics include deepfakes, identity theft, and synthetic voice attacks, which traditional multi-factor authentication and older voice biometrics cannot reliably combat.

FARx 2.0 combines speaker, speech, and face recognition to offer advanced protection against these risks.

Trained on 55,000 synthetic voices from real telephony environments, the system can reliably distinguish between authentic and AI-generated speech.

The software can be integrated into browsers, apps, and communication systems, and operates in the background to provide continuous, multi-factor authentication without disrupting the user experience.

It also supports Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems, allowing in-call detection of synthetic voices.

The launch follows a recent investment of £250,000 secured, aided by the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS), which supports early-stage startups through investor tax relief.

Mr Summerfield said: "Receiving the investment through the SEIS has allowed us to do this at an even greater pace, speeding up the development and delivery of FARx 2.0 to those who need it most."

Mr Summerfield said: "Through further research and development, and the expansion of our integration capabilities, FARx 2.0 offers an even broader spectrum of security.

"The result is a far more tailored approach to MFA security, built to combat both current and future threat landscapes."
