Delhi AQI edges closer to 'severe', orange alert for fog today

According to data on the CPCB's Sameer App, 19 monitoring stations in Delhi reported air quality in the 'Severe; category with Anand Vihar recording the highest AQI of 457.

Delhi's air quality edged closer to 'Severe' category on Sunday as with the AQI (air quality index) recorded at 390, up from 385 the previous day. In neighbouring Noida, the air quality continued to be in the 'Severe' category with AQI logged at 419, compared to 409 a day before. The air quality in Gurgaon plunged into the 'Very Poor' category with the AQI logged at 352 as compared to 299 a day before.

The meteorological department has issued an orange alert of very dense fog for Monday, with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to hover around 22 and 7 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Data from IITM Pune's DSS was not updated for Sunday. On Saturday, it showed that transport emissions remained the top contributor to Delhi's PM2.5 load at 16.22%, followed by the industrial sector at 8.4%. Residential emissions accounted for around 4%, while waste burning, construction activity and road dust together contributed about 5%.

The city recorded a low of 6.3 degrees Celsius, 0.5 degrees below the season's average, while the maximum temperature settled at 22.5 degrees Celsius, 2.1 notches above the seasonal average, the meteorological department said. -- (With PTI)
