Lions trade idea lands 24-sack DE to pair with Aidan Hutchinson

Lions trade idea lands 24-sack DE to pair with Aidan Hutchinson

The Miami Dolphins have had one of the worst starts to the season among any team in the NFL, sitting at 1-5 and simply not doing enough on either side of the ball. With a great chance of selling at the trade deadline, the Dolphins have many decisions to make on who they want to move.

It's an unfortunate situation for the organization to be in once again, but it seems that a full teardown and reset have to be in the works.

Among the players who could be moved, Jaelan Phillips, an edge, who has played great football when healthy, could be one of them. Philips has all the talent in the world, and if it weren't for some of his injuries, he'd likely be one of the more highly regarded edge rushers in the NFL.

With an upcoming contract situation, too, there isn't much of a reason for the Dolphins to keep him on the roster.

Mike Jones of The Athletic shared the same idea, listing him as one of 10 players who could be dealt. Furthermore, he listed the Detroit Lions as a potential option.

"He hasn't played a full season since 2022, but when healthy, the former first-round pick is highly impactful as a pass rusher. A number of top teams -- 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs, to name a few -- find themselves in need of edge-rushing help," he wrote.

Moving Phillips to the Lions from the Dolphins' perspective could make plenty of sense, as they have picks and even some younger players who could potentially be intriguing options for them to pursue.

The Lions are in a position to win a Super Bowl, but if there's been one question about them over the past few years, it's their inability to get stops when it matters most.

There have been times throughout the year when the Lions' defense looks much better, but there are still certainly questions about it. Phillips would only add to an already talented defense, pairing him with a star like Aidan Hutchinson.
