IKEA's ongoing smart home refresh is not just about Matter-compatible lights and sensors. The furniture and home goods company is also expanding into Qi wireless charging, with a new line of chargers designed to feel less like tech gadgets and more like everyday household objects. Leading the line-up is the VÄSTMÄRKE wireless charger, a compact accessory that combines charging, grip and cable storage in a playful design.
Priced at approximately $15 AUD, the VÄSTMÄRKE wireless charger blends the functionality of a PopSockets-style phone grip with a Qi2 charger. Its soft red silicone body is shaped like the top half of a donut turned inside out, creating a cosy, comfortable grip for your fingers while your phone charges. When not in use, the built-in USB-C cable wraps neatly inside the charger itself, helping eliminate tangled cords in bags or on desks. According to IKEA, the goal is to turn a typically boring smartphone accessory into something more tactile and fun.
Despite its low price, the charger supports Qi2 charging speeds and magnetically attaches to iPhones using MagSafe as well as Pixel phones equipped with Google's Pixelsnap magnets. That magnetic connection keeps phones properly aligned for efficient charging, whether you are holding your device or setting it down.
For those who prefer something more discreet and better suited to a bedside table or entryway, IKEA is also offering the VÄSTMÄRKE wireless charger with lighting that's priced at approximately $38 AUD. This version has a bowl-shaped base with a central charging column, giving users space to place keys or a wallet around their phone while it charges. The added light reinforces IKEA's push to make tech accessories look like intentional décor rather than utilitarian add-ons.
Wireless chargers have long been dominated by plain black pucks and bulky stands that prioritize function over form. IKEA is trying to flip that script by focusing on thoughtful design, low prices and modern standards. The move to Qi2 is particularly notable, signalling that IKEA is not cutting corners on performance just to stay affordable.
These chargers also fit into a broader shift in IKEA's smart home strategy. Over the years, the company has explored various ways to integrate technology into its minimalist furniture, including its now-ended partnership with Sonos, which concluded in May 2025 after producing lamps and picture frames with built-in speakers. Since then, IKEA has announced new Bluetooth speakers and has begun rolling out Matter-connected remotes, lights and sensors.
Together, the VÄSTMÄRKE chargers point to what comes next for IKEA's smart tech ambitions. Rather than locking customers into a complex ecosystem, the company appears focused on platform-agnostic, standards-friendly accessories that are affordable, practical and designed to blend naturally into everyday life.
