CMA CGM Air Cargo signs up to IATA emissions calculator

CMA CGM Air Cargo has signed up to the IATA CO₂ Connect emissions calculator to offer more accurate visibility on the carbon footprint of flights and shipments.

Ocean shipping giant CMA CGM announced in a LinkedIn post on 15 May that its airline business had joined IATA'S emissions scheme at the IATA World Cargo Symposium (WCS) last month.

CMA CGM claimed CMA CGM Air Cargo is the first airfreight company to share CO2 emissions data with IATA.

The company said: "CMA CGM AIR CARGO takes a bold step toward sustainability by joining the IATA CO₂ Connect programme at the IATA World Cargo Symposium 2025.

"As the first airfreight company to share CO₂ emissions data with IATA, we're driving transparency and enabling more sustainable decisions. CO₂ Connect provides reliable, standardised emissions data -- helping create a cleaner future for airfreight.

"This initiative helps CMA CGM AIR CARGO customers take real steps toward more responsible supply chains."

IATA CO2 Connect displays, monitors, benchmarks and report CO2 emissions from air transport based on primary data from airlines.

CO2 Connect considers airline specific fuel burn for full freighter and passenger aircraft carrying belly freight, airline specific cargo load factors, and passenger load factors to determine how many emissions to attribute to cargo.

In March, IATA enhanced CO2 Connect to account for carbon emissions reductions related to the usage of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
