Former UFC fighter set to work alongside Conor McGregor as a key figure in BKFC

Former UFC fighter set to work alongside Conor McGregor as a key figure in BKFC

Conor McGregor's BKFC are set to enter a new playing field next month with a bold idea coming to fruition.

So far in 2025, it has been business as usual for the promotion with McGregor regularly praising their stars now that he's a part owner.

They have also continued to add new names to the roster with the likes of former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski making the switch to BKFC.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the promotion would be branching out to create a new league, BKFC Ice Wars, where fights will take place inside a 900-square foot ice rink.

Fans immediately joked that Ice Wars was McGregor's idea but now BKFC has found the man that will fulfil two key roles in making this a reality.

Former UFC fighter Ian Heinisch has been announced to be the president and lead commentator for BKFC Ice Wars.

'The Hurricane' debuted inside the Octagon in 2018 after appearing on the second season of Dana White's Contender Series.

He went on to go 3-4 in the middleweight division, with his losses coming against high-level opposition in Derek Brunson, Omari Akhmedov, Kelvin Gastelum and Nassourdine Imavov.

The 36-year-old announced his retirement from MMA in 2023 in order to focus on recovering from some concussion issues that he'd been dealing with in his career.

Heinisch will now be a prominent figure in BKFC's latest venture, which is set to get underway on June 14 at the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Michigan.

The event, titled, 'Battle Of The Border', will pit the USA against Canada.

A second BKFC Ice Wars event is set to take place on June 28 at River Cree Casino & Resort in Enoch, Alberta, Canada with the promotion hoping to run at least six events in 2025.

The biggest name to have signed to BKFC Ice Wars as a competitor is former UFC fighter, Brian Kelleher.

'Boom' competed 17 times in the Octagon, holding wins over the likes of Renan Barao and Ode Osbourne.

He was removed from the roster following consecutive losses to Umar Nurmagomedov, Mario Bautista, Cody Garbrandt and Cody Gibson, before announcing his retirement earlier this year.

BKFC Ice Wars has announced several other names that will be competing at their debut event on June 14 but a full card is yet to be released.
