Activists extorting money from private unaided schools: Owaisi | Hyderabad News - The Times of India

Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday wrote a letter to the state chief information commissioner, G Chandrasekhar Reddy, alleging that some activists were harassing and extorting money from private unaided schools, including minority institutions in Hyderabad. He requested the commissioner to issue necessary instructions to the state public information officers and appellate authorities within the education department to refrain from insisting on or directing private unaided schools to provide information under the RTI Act. "Initiate strict action against so-called activists who are misusing the RTI Act to extort money from unaided private and minority schools," he further added. The Hyderabad MP also listed the names of activists allegedly indulging in such activities. "The gravity of the situation has compelled the Hyderabad District Recognised Schools Management Association and the Telangana Recognised School Management Associations to approach the high court. The HC, in an identical set of circumstances, has been pleased to set aside the proceedings initiated by the district education officer. Hyderabad and other officers of the education department," he said, and attached the copies of court orders and writ petitions.Owaisi urged the CIC to take up the issue on priority, citing the alleged widespread harassment faced by the educational institutions.
