Three Essex women awarded prestigious title of Queen's Nurse for their commitment

Alexandra Bartlett, Emefa Dokosi, and Jennie Keane, who work for Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT), have all been given the title.

This is awarded by the Queen's Institute of Community Nursing to those who show a high level of dedication to their patients.

With 36 years of experience in the NHS, Alexandra has spent the last 25 years in community nursing in south-east Essex.

She said: "From the age of three, I knew nursing was my calling."

Starting her career at 16 as a youth training student at Rochford Hospital, Alexandra is now a practice development nurse, supporting specialist nursing teams.

Her career has included roles in various teams and, speaking about this, she said: "Each chapter has strengthened my commitment to delivering exceptional care and empowering others to do the same."

Emefa, who has recently worked as Clinical Manager for EPUT's Care Home Education Team, will soon be joining Cumberlege Intermediate Care Centre at Rochford Hospital and Bayman ward at Brentwood Community Hospital as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.

She has been part of the NHS community nursing sector for a decade, including roles as a district nurse and part of the Urgent Community Response Team.

She said: "Being able to prevent avoidable hospital admissions and provide treatment in people's homes has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career."

Emefa has been very active in charities across Africa, including Ghana and São Tomé and Príncipe.

She also co-founded a charity to help missionaries in remote areas.

Emefa added: "I became a nurse to serve, empower, and advocate for those who need it most.

"I am dedicated to improving community health, advancing nursing practice, and inspiring others within the profession."

Jennie Keane, who has been a nurse for 46 years, is a clinical nurse specialist in tuberculosis (TB).

Alexandra, Jennie and Emefa were presented with their Queen's Nurse titles at an event on November 28.
