Winter officially begins this weekend, mild weather continues

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) -- Looking ahead, the forecast will be unseasonably warm heading into Christmas Day and likely the end of 2025.

Valley weather will stay uniform as a heat dome sets up over the central part of the contiguous US.

This enforces a hot and mostly dry weather pattern with highs and lows running 10 to 20 degrees above average.

Most days will see highs in the mid-to-upper 80s, and morning temperatures, after Saturday morning, in the mid-to-low 60s.

Mother Nature is not getting the memo that the first day of astronomical winter is Sunday, December 21st.

At 9:03 a.m., the sun will be exactly over the Tropic of Capricorn.

If you want to think about it this way, due to the Earth's tilted axis, half the Earth is pointed away from the sun while the other half is pointed toward it.

In the Northern Hemisphere, where we are located, the Earth is tilted away from the sun, which is why the winter solstice is the day with the fewest hours of sunlight!

Harlingen, specifically on Sunday, will only see 10 hours and 30 minutes of daylight!

Sunrise is at 7:14 a.m., and sunset is at 5:44 p.m.

On the bright side, we start to gain more daylight after Sunday.
