Daleks from Doctor Who lined up alongside Star Wars droids and a host of other exhibits as more than 1,000 people flocked to the east coast.
The talents of modellers were showcased once more at the tenth Lowestoft Model Engineering and Model Making Exhibition.

Records tumbled as the number of exhibitors increased this year to 270 with more than 1,000 visitors again enjoying the displays set around the Energy Skills Centre and Sixth Form campus at East Coast College in Lowestoft.

The exhibition again showcased modelling clubs and societies with a range of different disciplines, returning favourites and new displays helping to raise funds for this year's beneficiary - the "little brave warrior" Tommy Gilbert.

Tommy, from Lowestoft, was diagnosed when he was only 22 months old with an extremely rare form of Epilepsy - one of only 30 known in the world.

Now 30 months on, the brave five-year-old - who cannot walk, talk or do any of the normal activities usually associated with a youngster - will receive monies raised from the exhibition, which will go towards a specially adapted garden swing to keep him safe.

Organised by the Halesworth and District Model Engineering Society, Kevin Rackham, exhibition committee chairman, said: "The exhibition went very well and was larger than last year.

"We had over 1000 people enjoying the exhibition over the two days, and this year we increased the number of exhibitors to 270."

Ranging from traditional model engineering in all its guises to boats, aircraft, model railways, miniature tanks, plastic modelling, fun fairs, radio controlled trucks, Daleks and Star Wars inside, there were also three live steam traction engines, radio-controlled cars and lorries outside.

Trade stands and refreshments were also available to ensure the exhibition remains as "probably the biggest of its type in East Anglia."

Mr Rackham added: "New for this year was Ipswich & District RC Truckers' large roadway and town scape for their radio-controlled vehicles to run around, along with two magnificent cranes - the tallest one being 10ft tall.

"We had a very large selection of stationary steam engines running on compressed air, as well as live steam railway layouts.

"The bridge simulator and flight simulator were a big draw all weekend."
