Shedeur Sanders made a strong impression in his first start for the Cleveland Browns, leading them to a 24-10 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 12 on Sunday. After the game, Sanders appeared to take digs at the veteran quarterbacks in the league while discussing his own performance.
"Everybody can analyze and say whatever they want from the sideline, you can watch TV, talk on TV, whatever you want. But until you get out there and do it, it's different." Sanders said.
When fans caught wind of Sanders' post-game comments, they slammed the rookie QB.
"Probably the dumbest guy in the league and that's saying something," one tweeted.
"Kids, this is not confidence like the glazers will tell you. This is a massive lack of self awareness and "me first"not team first mentality. This is why he was a fifth rounder. Big talk without the game ..." one wrote.
"Brock Purdy beat Tom Brady in his first career start. I mean he became the first Rookie QB to ever beat him in his first career stats," another added.
"This kid is running his mouth way too much for that performance, my goodness," a user tweeted.
Sanders completed 11 of 20 passes for 209 yards with one touchdown and an interception against Las Vegas. He also became the first rookie signal-caller in Browns history to record a win in his first career start since the organization's reactivation in 1999.
On Monday, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that Shedeur Sanders will start against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 13 on Sunday.
Sanders started against the Raiders because Dillon Gabriel did not clear the concussion protocols. However, it appears that Sanders has now taken over the QB1 role for Cleveland since Gabriel is healthy.
