Ladysmith installs outdoor fitness circuit - Lake Cowichan Gazette

As the efforts to continue developing Lot 108 the Town of Ladysmith has recently installed new outdoor fitness equipment.

The new apparatus is weather-resistant with multi gym stations like dip and pull lower body combo and others. These options allow for versatile workouts, including strength, cardio, and flexibility exercises in a fresh-air setting.

Officially opened, last week, members of town council and staff along with the public cut the ribbon to open the facility.

"The Blue Imp outdoor fitness equipment is built in Canada and designed for year-round use in Canadian climates," said Chris Barfoot, the town's director of Parks, Recreation and Culture. "It is built with galvanized steel and a durable powder-coated finish to withstand rain, snow and sun."

The equipment was installed with concrete footings and then a rubber base surface was poured in the area.

The two-colour surface matches the town's colours of blue and green. Both are cool colours that can have a soothing effect, but blue tends to be more passive and calming, while green can feel more refreshing and balanced.

"Each piece of equipment includes clear instructional signage with directions and suggested exercises for safe and effective use," said Barfoot.

There are six different exercise stations and depending on a person's pace and physical exertion a full body workout should take approximately 20 to 30 minutes.

There are six pieces of exercise equipment, some of which are dual stations, allowing multiple users to work out simultaneously and offering a wider range of exercises.

The new rubber surfacing was installed by Marathon Surfaces of Surrey, and the entire project including equipment, surfacing, and site preparation, was approximately $110,000. Marathon is a supplier and installer of surfaces ranging from rubber running tracks and recycled rubber safety surfacing for playgrounds to multi-purpose courts and synthetic turf.

At the east end of the fitness area there is an open surfaced area that Barfoot said "is intended for stretching, yoga, dynamic exercises, and group fitness activities, providing flexibility beyond the fixed stations."
