FARGO -- Staff with the American Red Cross wants your help to bring comfort to local veterans ahead of Christmas.
They're partnering with Gate City Bank for their annual "Quilts for Veterans" project.
Since 2022, the program has donated hundreds of quilts to VA hospitals, homes and stand-down events across the region.
Staff in 2024 say they're hoping to give more. To meet that goal, they've extended the drive through November.
They're looking for new handmade or purchased quilts and fleece blankets with neutral, masculine or patriotic themes.
Those must be sturdy enough to undergo industrial washing and sterilizing processes.
"That veteran might not have anyone else, that this might be the only gift that they do receive for this Christmas season. And we just want to make sure that they feel loved and that they just feel the care for and all the gratitude for them and all their service," Kimberly Vosseteig, executive director with the American Red Cross of North Dakota and Minnesota, said.
You can drop off those items at any Gate City Bank; there are 45 locations across North Dakota and central Minnesota.
