Woman in life-threatening condition following downtown Toronto hit-and-run

A woman is fighting for her life in hospital after being struck in a hit-and-run in downtown Toronto on Monday afternoon.

The collision happened near Dundas Street West and Beverley Street, east of Spadina Avenue.

Toronto police said they were called to that area at around 4:15 p.m. for reports of a pedestrian that had been hit by a vehicle.

Investigators said a driver of a large white truck with possible damage to the driver's side fled the scene northbound on St. Patrick Street.

Paramedics said they transported a woman to a trauma centre. They initially said she was in serious condition, however police now say she's critical.

Beverley was closed between Dundas and Grange Avenue as police investigated but has since reopened.

Motorists are being advised to use alternate routes.
