Police and first responders were called Thursday afternoon to check on an unresponsive boy at a La Crescent residence.
Upon arriving to the scene, the boy, who authorities said had been left "unattended", was unconscious and cool to the touch.

Despite the life-saving efforts, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene by Tri-State Ambulance paramedics.
The official cause of death is pending further investigation and autopsy results, but there is currently no indication of suspicious circumstances, according to La Crescent police.
