CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The two men accused of a deadly shooting outside Angie's Soul Café in June were arraigned in the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas on Wednesday.
Zoom issues caused some rescheduling earlier this week.
Dominick Newby, 20, was arraigned, and his bond was set at $1 million.
Newby was indicted on the charges of aggravated murder, murder, aggravated robbery, felonious assault, and having weapons while under disability.
Newby will be back in court on Jan. 7.
Jayshawn Collins, 19, was also arraigned on Wednesday and his bond was set at $1 million.
Collins was indicted on the charges of aggravated murder, murder, aggravated robbery, felonious assault, and arson. He will be back in court on Thursday.
On Dec. 10, Newby and Collins were taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshals' Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force on E. 58th Street.
Cleveland police said Newby and Collins fatally shot a Maple Heights man during a robbery in the parking lot of the restaurant in the 7800 block of Carnegie Ave. around 2:30 p.m. on June 17.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Patrick Carner, 34.
Restaurant staff told 19 News the victim was a customer who had come to purchase food and was shot while getting in a car.
A representative from the restaurant released the below statement on June 17:
19 News confirmed that in July 2020, Carner was sentenced in connection with the death of his pregnant ex-girlfriend.
Vonnashia Akins died after falling out of a moving car on I-90 in downtown Cleveland during rush hour in October 2019.
Carner was behind the wheel, and police said he left the scene.
He was sentenced to a total of four years for obstruction of official business and tampering with evidence.
