100 new homes could soon come to Chapin

CHAPIN, S.C. -- Residents of Chapin are voicing their concerns over a new development proposed for the area.

"It's just gonna make the quality of life for everybody who lives around it worse," Chapin resident Alex Dial said.

Dial started an online petition opposing development in his neighborhood, which has now received more than 500 signatures.

According to plans sent to News 19 by Lexington County, the proposal includes the building of 106 homes between Forty Love Road and Island Trail.

The acres of land where these homes would be developed currently sit in front Dial's home.

"These roads are just back country roads. There are no lines painted on them, they're very narrow. How in the world are they going to add 200 homes on this very narrow strip. They will approve the plan to do it, but how does it handle it?" Dial said.

The land is spread between both Richland and Lexington counties, with the current plans showing 70 homes built on the Lexington side and 36 on the Richland side.

News 19 reached out to both counties. Neither was available for an interview.

"There's little regard for the people who live here now, the taxpayers now, the infrastructure, our quality of life, the wildlife, the lake ... it's like it's ... there's no care in the world about any of that," Dial said.

According to Lexington County, formal submission for engineering, open space or platting have not been received and the current sketch could change. The county said if plans meet all county regulations, they will be approved at staff level.
