Former news anchor Angelynn Mock faces a first-degree murder charge after allegedly stabbing her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, to death. Avers was found unresponsive in her Wichita home with multiple stab wounds. Mock, who previously worked for Fox 2 in St. Louis, was also treated for injuries and taken into custody.

Angelynn "Angie" Mock, a former news anchor, has come under the scanner after she was charged with first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing and killing her elderly mother. The victim was identified as Anita Avers, who was found unresponsive in her bed at her home with multiple stab wounds."

Mock, 47, worked for the Fox 2 news station in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015. Her mother, 80-year-old Anita Avers, was found unresponsive in her home in Wichita, Kan., the morning of Friday, Oct. 31. In a media release shared by the Sedgwick County Police Department (SCPD) on Facebook, it said that police responded to a "reported cutting" at a residence in Wichita, Kan., at about 7:52 a.m. local time on Friday, Oct. 31, according to a media release.

Upon arrival, police found a woman who was later identified as Angelynn "Angie" Mock standing outside the home. They then entered the residence and found Mock's mother, Anita Avers, 80, "unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds." Avers was transported to a local hospital, where she died later that morning, the release stated.

Mock has been charged with murder after she allegedly stabbed and killed her elderly mother. The former news anchor was also treated at the hospital for undisclosed injuries and was then taken into custody at the Sedgwick County Jail, according to police.

Mock previously worked as a news anchor and reporter for Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015, according to her LinkedIn profile. She later transitioned into sales and was currently working for a data management software company at the time of her arrest, according to her LinkedIn.

Mock was charged with murder in the first degree on Oct. 31 and is being held on a bond of $1 million, according to Sedgwick County public records. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing. PEOPLE reached out to the SCPD for comment on Sunday, Nov. 2, but did not receive an immediate response.

Mock's motive for the alleged crime is not clear at this time. Information about her initial court appearance is currently unavailable.
