Jets legend 'thrilled' with Aaron Glenn hire: 'Wish the season would start next week!'

Moments after it was announced that the Jets had hired Aaron Glenn to be their head coach, the Super Bowl-winning quarterback took to X/Twitter to share his excitement.

"I'm hoping all @nyjets fans are as thrilled as my family and I are that Aaron Glenn is our new Head Coach," Namath wrote on X/Twitter. "I wish the season would start next week!"

Glenn was hired after having a second meeting with the Jets on Tuesday. After the news broke by multiple sources, the home-grown Jet released a statement via the team:

"To our players, prepare to be coached with everything we have. That is our responsibility. I ask that we share the same vision and that's working towards winning a championship. To our fans, simply put, expect a winning team that you will be proud of."

Glenn, who was a defensive coordinator for the Lions, has played an instrumental role in transforming Detroit into a powerhouse over the last four seasons. The Lions' defense ranked fourth in 2024, according to Pro Football Focus. They've allowed the seventh fewest points in the NFL (342).

The former Jets cornerback, who had 24 interceptions and two Pro Bowl appearances in eight seasons after the Jets made him the 12th overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft, is a top candidate. In all, Glenn played 15 NFL seasons, earning three Pro Bowl nods.

Two weeks ago, Lion head coach Dan Campbell said it would be "ridiculous" if Glenn isn't hired as a head coach. Now, he's short one of the top coaches in the NFL.
