'Any time I have spent money on my cat it's been a nightmare', Jake joked.

'When you own a cat, you buy them gifts. I bought a bed, thinking it would be so cute if he slept on it.

'Then, he decides to sleep absolutely everywhere else except the bed I bought for him.

'I once had a fancy dress party... [as part of a costume] a friend of mine wore a laundry basket on her head.

'Afterwards, it got left in the living room. That was my cat's bed for ages, that's where he decided he wanted to be.

'I even put the bed I bought into the laundry basket. He then stopped going anywhere near it.

'Any time I have spent any money on him thinking he's going to love it, he deliberately doesn't show any interest.

Jake told Matt his cat's unusual name is a nod to the tiger in Life of Pi - though conceded his feline friend is far less cooperative than the novel's famous beast

'I have realised now that what I have to do is put it down somewhere and make him feel like he's discovered what I've bought him.

'That way, he thinks he's got one over on me.'

The Slough-born comedian is currently touring the UK and Europe with his new show, The Sunshine Kid.

Jake told Matt his cat's unusual name is a nod to the tiger in Life of Pi - though conceded his feline friend is far less cooperative than the novel's famous beast.

He said: 'I just bought new armchairs and he's just decided one of them is his. He absolutely loves it.

'No one has ever sat on it. It's just his.

'I think I might admit defeat with the bed. That's my biggest spending regret because ultimately, cats just want a cardboard box.'

Spent! is available now on Youtube, and wherever you get your podcasts. New episodes are released every Tuesday.
