iPhone 18 Pro Rumored to Feature Full 5G Satellite Internet

Apple is planning a major connectivity upgrade for future iPhones. A new report suggests the tech giant will integrate full 5G satellite internet capabilities. This feature could debut as early as next year.

According to The Information, this would allow iPhones to access the internet directly from satellites. It represents a significant leap beyond current satellite features.

Current iPhone satellite features are limited. They support Emergency SOS, Find My, and roadside assistance. These services require a clear view of the sky.

The new technology would enable full internet browsing. Users could stream video and access apps anywhere. This service would not rely on traditional cell towers.

T-Mobile's Starlink partnership offers a glimpse of the future. Yet it is still limited to select functions. True, direct-to-smartphone 5G from space is the ultimate goal.

Apple currently partners with Globalstar for its satellite services. However, recent developments suggest other options. SpaceX recently added support for the radio spectrum Apple uses.

Globalstar's financial reports hint at potential instability. The company warned that losing a major customer would hurt its finances. This customer is widely believed to be Apple.

A deal between Apple and SpaceX now seems more plausible. The two companies have had a rocky relationship in the past. Burying that bad blood would be necessary for collaboration.
