Naucukidi's trial set for April 2026

The trial of Acting Fiji Corrections Service Commissioner Sevuloni Naucukidi, who is accused of threatening an employee, is scheduled to be heard in five months.

Mr Naucukidi, who faces a count of criminal intimidation allegedly committed in July this year, had his case called before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne at the Suva Magistrate's Court yesterday.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, which intends to call 10 witnesses, alleges Mr Naucukidi threatened a member of his support staff.

The court heard that both parties agreed to set a hearing date following an application by lawyer Tanya Waqanika for an early hearing.

As a result, Mr Somaratne has scheduled Mr Naucukidi's trial to last two days, starting on April 1, 2026; however, he would be able to fix a hearing date for February next year if the parties reached an agreement to reduce the number of witnesses.

Mr Naucukidi's bail was extended, and the case has been adjourned to January 5, 2026.
