POSCO Future M has entered into a technology development partnership with U.S.-based all-solid-state battery company Factorial Energy.
POSCO Future M announced on the 4th that it signed a "Strategic Cooperation MOU for All-Solid-State Battery Technology Development" with Factorial Energy on the 25th of last month (local time) at the "Future Battery Forum" held in Berlin, Germany. Executives from both companies, including Hong Young-joon, head of POSCO Future M's Technology Research Institute, and Xiu Huang, CEO of Factorial, attended the signing.
POSCO Future M stated, "This agreement was made because Factorial tested cathode material samples for all-solid-state batteries from multiple material suppliers and evaluated POSCO Future M's materials as having superior quality competitiveness, such as output characteristics, compared to competitors."
All-solid-state batteries, which use solid electrolytes instead of liquid ones, are highly safe and excel in energy density and charging performance, drawing attention as a 'game-changer' for next-generation mobility industries like electric vehicles and robots. Factorial, headquartered in Massachusetts, is a leader in the all-solid-state battery sector and currently operates a pilot plant in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province.
Hong Young-joon said, "We expect synergy in next-generation all-solid-state battery business by combining Factorial's battery technology and market-building capabilities with global automakers, along with POSCO Future M's competitive cathode and anode materials."
Xiu Huang, CEO, stated, "Collaboration with POSCO Future M will accelerate innovation in core materials like cathodes and anodes, and also contribute to strengthening the global supply chain and reducing costs."
