Stew Leonard Jr. Approves Of Viral Butter-Dipped Ice Cream Cone, His Doctor Does Not

That's something Stewart Leonard Jr. set out to answer when he tried the viral salted butter-dipped vanilla ice cream cone earlier this week. The sweet-and-salty treat is the newest creation of New York-based French pastry chef Dominique Ansel, the inventor of the cronut.

The dairy magnate posted his taste test on Stew Leonard's TikTok. And his conclusion?

"Mmmmmmm!" he gushed. "Who doesn't love ice cream? Who doesn't love butter? And who doesn't love salt?"

His doctor, he joked, would not approve of the trendy dessert.

An employee at a Stew Leonard's store said the chain will begin selling the butter-dipped cones soon, but could not provide a date.

The salted butter ice cream has gone viral across social media platforms, with hundreds of people eager to try the butter-encrusted treat that originated at New York City's Papa d'Amour bakery.

The reactions have been mixed. Some reviewers, like Leonard, have raved about the flavor mashup, while the butter-basted hard shell has put off others.

Even the commenters are divided on whether to try it.

"Revolting!" one person replied. "Ice cream is not popcorn," someone else chimed in.

Others were more open to the idea.

"I would love to try it," one person said, "but like only two bites max. My brain wouldn't let me do more."
