A recent candidate for the Ireland job could take charge of World Cup play-off opponents - Irish Mirror

Czechia are reportedly interested in handing former Croatia and West Ham manager Slaven Bilic the role of head coach.

Ireland's World Cup play-off opponents Czechia could appoint a man who last year was linked with the Boys in Green job.

Bilic is currently out of work, having left Saudi Pro League side Al-Fateh in the summer of last year.

He is believed to be on a short-list to become the permanent successor to Ivan Hasek, who lost his job in the wake of Czechia's shock qualification defeat to the Faroe Islands.

Jaroslav Köstl took interim charge in November. He is not considered a contender for the role.

So Bilic is joined on the shortlist by Slavia Prague manager Jindřich Trpisovsky.

Trpisovsky, however, has recently come out and said that he feels "a certain bond with Slavia, a certain responsibility to the owner and the club."

The Czechs are on the lookout for a new manager after a disastrous qualification campaign, which saw them finish six points behind Croatia and only four ahead of the Faroes.

They needed an 85th minute winner to beat the Faroes at home, and lost 2-1 in Torshavn.
