4 prime-time games for Buccaneers as schedule is released

TAMPA -- Four consecutive NFC South titles earned the Bucs at least four prime-time games during the 2025 season, according to the NFL schedule released Wednesday.

Despite their run of success in the division, the Bucs were swept last year by the Falcons.

They won't have to wait long to avenge those defeats. Tampa Bay will open the season on Sunday, Sept. 7, at Atlanta.

The next week, the Bucs will play at Houston on Monday Night Football, marking the first time they will begin a season with back-to-back road games since 2022 when they started at Dallas and at New Orleans, winning both.

The Bucs' home opener will come against the Jets in Week 3. The next week, the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles will visit Raymond James Stadium for a 1 p.m. game on Sept. 28.

It's the fifth time since 2022 the Bucs will host the Eagles, including an NFC wild-card game that Tampa Bay won 32-9 in January 2024. The Eagles have visited the Bucs three consecutive Septembers.

For the fifth time since 2019, including a division-round game in January 2024, the Bucs will play the Lions in Detroit, this time on Monday, Oct. 20.

The Bucs will travel to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, for the second straight year, this time to play the Rams Nov. 23 on Sunday Night Football.

The Bucs wrap up their scheduled prime-time games by hosting the Falcons in a homecoming of sorts for former Tampa Bay Tech quarterback Michael Penix Jr. on Thursday, Dec. 11.

At least the Bucs will be home for the holidays, despite speculation to the contrary.

Five of their first eight games will be on the road before a very advantageous and well-placed bye in Week 9.

After their game against the Rams, the Bucs won't venture any any farther from Tampa than Carolina.

They will finish by playing the Panthers twice in three weeks -- at Carolina Dec. 21 and in the home finale on Jan. 3 or 4. Sandwiched between those games is one against the Dolphins Dec. 28 in Miami.

The Bucs have reached the postseason five consecutive years, the longest playoff run in the NFC.

But since capping the 2020 season by winning Super Bowl 55 with Tom Brady, Tampa Bay has failed to advance past the wild-card round twice in four seasons.

Coach Todd Bowles said in March he hopes his team can avoid the October swoon that has plagued it the past two seasons. After posting back-to-back 3-1 starts, the Bucs lost five of their next six games in 2023 and '24 before scrambling to reach the postseason.

"I feel good that we know how to win," Bowles said. "I don't feel good about us finishing the season from a playoff aspect, and the middle of the season having a drought two years in a row.

"We've got to be better than that from a coaching standpoint, from veterans holding everybody accountable -- which they do -- but we've got to do a lot more of that. We've got to play -- not even better football in the end -- but we've got to have a killer instinct, and we've got to try to blow people out and try to win a division instead of it going down to the last few weeks."

The Bucs will host the Titans and Bills and play at the Steelers in the preseason. Dates and times have yet to be announced.
