It's not an unusual thing for elementary students to have a class pet. I've seen fish, hamsters, turtles, and sometimes even rocks as class pets, but it's rare that a teacher decides on a larger pet. The mother of a 2nd grader took to TikTok to share a video, which ended up on Reddit, that details her daughter's interesting plan to talk her principal into allowing her to bring her pet horse, Salsa, in as the class pet. However, while the story is adorable the whole way through, the story takes a bit of a twist at the end, and Redditors made sure to voice their opinion about it right away.
The daughter of @afmuscato on TikTok was excited to be a part of the class pet choice in her school, and somehow had convinced her teacher to agree to having Salsa be their class pet. When she got into her mom's car after school, she told her, "My teacher said that if you say yes and the principal says yes, then Salsa can be our class pet." Right away, her mom explains that Salsa is actually a "1,000-pound American Quarter Horse." You can probably see where the issue would be here, because mom sure does.
At this point, we're all pretty invested already. An 8-year old bringing a 1,000 lb. horse to school would be amusing, and we're here for it. So, obviously, the mom says it's okay, because ultimately, the decision is still in the principal's hands. Not surprisingly, she was called the "best mom ever," for agreeing to let Salsa be her class pet. Now, here's where things get interesting. The girl, Ellie Jo, starts to make a plan for "how she is going to convince her principal that this is a good idea."
Right away, she decides that "a lot of other kids would like that too," and this eight-year-old decides to literally organize a petition for Salsa to be the school pet, rather than just the class pet. Meanwhile the mom's trying to find a way to help her daughter's principal because she actually likes her, so she explains what an actual petition is, and how she should write up a letter and have all her friends sign it. Right away, she said, "This was the greatest idea she's ever heard of," and details how her daughter immediately started writing up the letter.
By this point, things are shaping up to lead to Salsa actually becoming the school pet. Everyone wants to see it happen, we're all waiting for the "Well, now I have to haul this horse to the school" that should have been coming at the end of the story, but things didn't go how we expected at all.
After Ellie Jo wakes up the next morning for school, she went to her mom and said "Mom, I've been thinking about it, and I don't think it's a good idea to bring Salsa to school as a class or school pet." Her mother asks why, and we all got quite a shock at her response. "Well, I was thinking about it, and you can't hide a horse in a closet, so I'll have no way to keep her safe in an active shooter situation." The comments section under the video started going wild with responses.
Once Redditor said, "Yeah was waiting for the now I'm getting the trailer ready for Salsa. That went down hill fast." Another followed up with "M Knight Shyamalan level twist at the end there." Hundreds of other comments conveyed the same shock, along with one reading, "That twist was brutal lmao."
