Fall warmth ends abruptly: Winter cold front hits Indiana, bringing possible flurries to Bedford area | WBIW

STATEWIDE -- Indiana's stretch of unseasonably warm fall weather is officially coming to an end. After enjoying highs in the 60s for the rest of the week, residents should brace for a significant drop in temperatures this weekend, bringing conditions that will feel decidedly more like winter.

According to Greg Melo with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis, the major shift is expected to begin over the weekend. "Really, the big change will be as we move into Sunday, we'll really start to get much colder," Melo said, advising residents to prepare for the change.

The current forecast for the Bedford area confirms this dramatic transition, with the chance for the first snowflakes of the season by Sunday night:

The NWS anticipates that while precipitation late Saturday and into Sunday will primarily be rain, there is a chance for flurries to mix in on Sunday across portions of Central Indiana as the temperatures plummet.

"When Sunday night rolls around, low temperatures drop well into the 20s across most of Indiana, so it's time to grab that heavy coat," Melo warned.

The cold snap will also be accompanied by brisk winds, with speeds expected to increase on Friday and Sunday, further contributing to the winter chill.
