Noida: By March 2026, all Greater Noida sectors may get Gangajal. The 85-cusec Ganga water project in Greater Noida is nearing completion, officials told TOI on Sunday, adding, water supply is already operational in most urban sectors and several nearby villages."Ganga water is being supplied to 54 of the 58 sectors, along with six villages -- Birondi, Bironda, Aicher, Namoli, Nato ki Madiya and Balla ki Madiya -- as of now," they said. Authorities said supply to the remaining four sectors -- mainly in Greater Noida West -- is expected to be completed by March 2026, after which the entire Greater Noida area, including the listed villages, will be covered. Plans are also being prepared to extend Ganga water supply to all other villages in the region in phases.Built at a cost of about Rs 850 crore, the project will ultimately supply 210 million litre per day of Ganga water to more than 10 lakh people. Conceived in 2005, the project took nearly 17 years to become operational. A 176-km pipeline network built between 2012 and 2014 carries water from the Upper Ganga Canal in Hapur to Greater Noida. The project was inaugurated by chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Nov 1, 2022, though supply to Greater Noida West was delayed beyond the initial March 2023 timeline due to issues with the old distribution network. Officials said the project's core infrastructure executed by Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has largely been completed. This includes the head regulator and intake structure at Dehra village, the water treatment plant (WTP) at Palla village and more than 22 km of large-diameter pipelines linking the intake, WTP and the master reservoir. All these components are currently operational.Under the internal distribution system, construction of 17 underground reservoirs has been completed. Work on three additional reservoirs, awarded in Oct 2024, is underway and scheduled for completion by Dec 2025.At the same time, Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam (UPRNN) has completed 20 of the 25 underground reservoirs assigned to it. Construction of the remaining five reservoirs is stalled due to land disputes and cases pending before Allahabad high court.
