Bismarck center to offer childcare and therapy

BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) -- Finding childcare is hard enough, but finding a center that also supports your child's development can feel nearly impossible. But a new center in Bismarck is aiming to change that.

On June 2, the University of Mary will open the Butler Center for Early Learning, a full-time childcare and preschool program serving children from six weeks to 12 years old.

Located across from Kirkwood Mall, the center offers more than just early education. It's one of the only facilities in the region where kids can get on-site support like speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and even nursing.

That support will come from university students and faculty working directly with the children.

The center was made possible through a $464,000 grant from the North Dakota Department of Commerce. It features age-specific rooms, a summer program for school-aged kids, and a curriculum based on Montessori principles and Christian, Catholic, and Benedictine values.

The building itself has been repurposed from a former university space.

According to University of Mary President Monsignor James Shea, "Here, we are forming not only young minds, but also young hearts -- helping each child to discover their dignity, to grow in wonder, and to encounter the beauty of learning in a setting that reflects God's love."

Enrollment is open now. There are still limited spots available for children over age 3, but younger age groups already have waitlists.
