The Chesterton Art Center, 115 S. 4th St., will host a free family art day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 16.
"Kids and their favorite grown-ups are invited to participate anytime during those hours to explore the current exhibition, 'It's All About the Square' by Area Artists Association, followed by time to make art together," the art center said in a news release. "All ages are welcome, and all materials are provided."
Children and their parents can learn how to make art in a number of mediums.

"With guidance from the CAC team, families will explore the current exhibition where the artists push the boundaries and interpretations of 'the square' through a wide variety of media including painting, drawing, artist books, photography, and sculpture," center said in the news release. "Visitors will then move into the classroom to create a series of projects inspired by the exhibit such as collage cubes, mixed media sculptures, and rubber band prints. All supplies are provided, and you may want to dress for a mess!"

People are encouraged to register in advance online or over the phone but walk-ins also are welcome.
It's part of an ongoing push to make the arts more accessible to the community.
"Family Art Days exemplify CAC's commitment to creating accessible public arts programming for the Duneland community and beyond," according to the news release. "Come spend some relaxed, creative time with your family and learn more about all CAC has to offer. Family Art Days are generously supported by Meijer."
