Wisconsin Football Loses Another Cornerback to the Transfer Portal

The University of Wisconsin football program has officially lost its second cornerback of the offseason to the transfer portal.

Sophomore defensive back Jonas Duclona, a native of Naples, Florida, announced Monday that he intends to enter the transfer portal.

"First and foremost, I want to thank God for the opportunities and experiences I've had," Duclona wrote on X. "A special thank you to Coach Fick, Coach Haynes, and the entire University of Wisconsin staff for their unwavering support over the past two years. You have shaped me into the player I am today.

"With that being said, I will be entering the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining, ready for the next chapter of my journey."

A former three-star recruit in the 2023 class, Duclona committed to the Badgers shortly after Luke Fickell took the head coaching job at Wisconsin. At the time, Duclona's commitment was a significant win late in the cycle for Fickell and his staff to help salvage the recruiting class.

Over his two seasons in Madison, the 5-foot-11 cornerback appeared in 16 games, including 12 as a true freshman, where he recorded three tackles. In total, Duclona played 44 defensive snaps for the Badgers.

The Florida native was expected to play a more prominent role in Wisconsin's secondary in 2025, with current starter Ricardo Hallman potentially departing after the 2024 season, along with Nyzier Fourqurean and RJ Delancy exhausting their eligibility.

Duclona's departure is just the beginning of what's shaping up to be a whirlwind offseason for the Wisconsin Badgers as the program braces for plenty of player movement following a disappointing 5-7 season.

With the portal window opening soon, Duclona likely won't be the last player to seek a new opportunity. This initial wave of departures highlights the challenges ahead for coach Fickell and his staff as they look to build toward a brighter future at Wisconsin.

Duclona becomes the fourth known player to announce his intention to transfer, joining quarterback Cole LaCrue, outside linebacker Leon Lowery, and fellow cornerback Amare Snowden. These announcements come on the heels of Wisconsin's season-ending loss to Minnesota, with the winter transfer window officially opening on Monday, Dec. 9.
