DAZN Italia continues Innovation Hub plan with second virtual studio

During 2024, NVP, in collaboration with system integrator Video Progetti, created a virtual studio for DAZN Italia designed to enhance the platform's live and on-demand productions. Phase two of the project has now launched as DAZN continues with its Innovation Hub plan.

The original space was developed and made operational in just two months within DAZN's production centre in Cologno Monzese. It covers 134sqm and is based around a U-shaped LED wall with Unilumin LED floor, managed by Brompton processors to ensure uniform colour performance and HDR compatibility.

The Disguise platform coordinates the entire workflow, from managing the VX4+ media servers and RXII render engines to controlling the mixed reality environment.

Phase two

This first environment was conceived as a modular and scalable production asset and represented the first step in DAZN's Innovation Hub plan.

Also part of the Innovation Hub roadmap, the second studio, a 500sqm production space, was launched last month. This time the chosen technology is green screen, supported by an infrastructure that integrates sensors and green screen.

For the graphic component, NVP involved wTVision as a partner for workflow and graphic solutions. Through its wVSet virtual set and augmented reality system, it offers photorealistic environments combined with data-driven AR graphics, leveraging the combined power of Unreal Engine and wTVision's R3 Space engine, fully integrated within the end-to-end StudioCG graphic workflow.

The collaboration with wTVision enables integration with existing graphic layouts, ensuring a consistent international brand identity.

The entire production infrastructure of the studio was designed and implemented by NVP, and it is fully compatible with DAZN's existing broadcast galleries and the new facilities and control rooms of the Innovation Hub.

The space is equipped with four Grass Valley LDX 135 HDR cameras, Canon lenses, a HumanCrane Stype system for automated cinematic movements, Redspy tracking for precise motion control, Ultimatte 12 4K for compositing, and Sennheiser EW 6000 microphones with Dante interface.

Video signals, enhanced with virtual sets and augmented reality elements, are transmitted via optical fibre to DAZN's production centre, where they are processed as standard control room feeds, ensuring full operational continuity and broadcast-quality standards.

According to NVP technical director Ivan Pintabona, the creation of this new studio represents the natural completion of an innovation path shared with DAZN, designed to provide tailor-made and immediately operational solutions.

He also states that the objective is to continue with broader international projects, focusing on increasingly integrated Innovation Hubs and remote centres, alongside the evolution of the OB van fleet.
