Three great destinations for Red Sox superstar Alex Bregman after opting into free agency

Three great destinations for Red Sox superstar Alex Bregman after opting into free agency

With the offseason officially begun, the Boston Red Sox lost a core piece of their roster in Alex Bregman. He's officially opted out of his contract and will test free agency.

Bregman is a superstar and proven winner, and will have many contenders vying for his presence on their team. Here are three franchises that could be the best fit for Bregman:

3. Kansas City Royals

The Royals have already been linked to Bregman as a dark horse candidate, and for good reason. They have the money, and they have openings at second and third base, where Bregman has played before.

However, they're lower on this list due to the fact that they might not be able to offer as much as the next two.

2. Detroit Tigers

The Detroit Tigers are looking for a superstar to headline with Tarik Skubal in his potential final season with the team, and to become the main superstar after he potentially leaves. While they don't have the money for an extension for Skubal, they definitely have enough for Bregman.

The reason they aren't one, however, is that the top team has a definite advantage over any suitor.

1. Boston Red Sox

Pretty obvious, right? Bregman fit in quickly and perfectly with the Sox, becoming the leader they needed for their young core. He did have some health problems, but he otherwise had a great year.

Bregman also loves it in Boston, so if the incumbent franchise can put a decent number out along with a long-term contract, it might be easy enough to retain him.
