Ferguson man charged for 2024 shootings

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) -A Ferguson man has been charged with two shootings that occurred in 2024.

Florissant police charged Aubrey Yates with one count of first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of tampering with a motor vehicle.

St. Louis County police are charging Yates with three counts of armed criminal action, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, first-degree burglary, tampering with a motor vehicle and attempted tampering with a motor vehicle.

The first shooting occurred in June 2024 when a man was taking pictures of his house for sale. He parked his car at the 2400 block of Hummingbird Drive and was loading equipment when Yates and three other individuals pulled next to him.

Yates and the individuals were driving a stolen 2018 gray Infiniti and all pointed a gun at the man.

The man ducked and heard gunshots and felt pellets hit him on his leg. He grabbed his firearm and began to shoot back.

The man ended with lacerations on his knee and elbow.

Yates dropped his phone while fleeing. Police later found the phone and shell casings of a 9mm caliber. Officers identified the phone number as one used by Yates.

Shortly after, Yates posted on Instagram that he had lost his phone and spoke about the details of the shooting in conversations.

Yates later posted pictures of the stolen Infiniti with blue tarps over the passenger compartment.

In September 2024, at approximately 1:17 a.m., Yates and three other people arrived at the 12000 block of Stonebridge Drive in a stolen 2022 Porsche Macan.

Two of the companions entered the garage of a residence and entered a 2020 Dodge Charger. The owner of the Dodge walked outside, saw the two people leaving the garage with firearms. He grabbed his firearm and asked the four individuals to go.

They did not and began shooting at the man. The man was hit on his buttocks and returned fire. Yates and the other three individuals ran on foot, leaving the Porsche behind.

Officers recovered 300 blackout casings by the Porsche and found a Ruger AR-15 rifle with 15,300 blackout rounds in the backseat of the Porsche.

Yates' fingerprint was found on the driver's A pillar of the Porsche and his DNA was found on the steering wheel.

Additionally, Yates posted pictures of the stolen Porsche on his Instagram and his cell phone placed him near the scene.
