The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), together with its partner Prosignal Consortium, has launched a new navigation app called TuJu today. The name is said to be a portmanteau of "two" (referring to two-way information between LLM and the end user) and "jarak" or "julat" (distance/range).
Entering into a segment already dominated by the likes of Google Maps and Waze, TuJu is claiming several unique features thanks to the public-private partnership. For one, the app provides access to live traffic reports (via Facebook) from LLM's traffic management centre (TMC) and displays an accurate toll charge calculation, in addition to the usual ETA.
TuJu also shows the full list of R&R locations, as well as available facilities such as restrooms, surau, food outlets, petrol stations and even EV chargers. Users can also access real-time highway CCTV feeds to check for any congestion, accidents or natural disasters.
Just like Waze, users can make reports of any incidents such as road closures and the like. There's also a link to LLM's other app MyJalan to make complaints on road and infrastructure damage such as potholes. Last but not least is an SOS button that will enable users to contact emergency services immediately. Under the skin, TuJu uses Google's mapping and POI data as well as technology from Maybank.
At the moment, TuJu is not accessible through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, although an LLM official told us that there are plans to eventually update the app to support the feature. TuJu is available for iPhone and Android phones via the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
