Delhi NCR pollution update: In a significant weather update for the residents of Delhi NCR, the air quality of the national capital has seen a sharply deterioration even before Diwali. In the recent development, most areas of Delhi NCR have been reported to witness "very poor" to "severe" category of air pollution. For those unversed, Delhi NCR witnesses massive levels of air pollution during the Diwali season due to firecrackers and stubble burning in the agriculture based states of Punjab an Haryana. However, this year, the stubble burning has been minimal due to floods in Punjab. Surprisingly, in a point of surprise, the pollution has rose to dangerous levels even before the firecrackers bursting on Diwali day. Therefore, it becomes important to know and understand the reasons which are leading to the pollution increase in Delhi NCR.
As per the recent pollution data, CPCB data showed Delhi's average AQI at 274 ("poor") on Sunday morning, which worsened within hours where Anand Vihar recorded 426 ("severe"), while RK Puram, Vivek Vihar, and Ashok Vihar crossed 300 ("very poor").

As per media reports quoting experts, the main causes of the pollution spike in the national capital ahead of Diwali are vehicular emissions (15.6% share of the total pollution), road dust, and industrial pollution, along with construction dust and garbage burning.
Getting to the weather forecast ahead of Diwali, the IMD forecast has suggested that there will be no natural relief from the pollution in Delhi NCR due to as calm winds, fog, and stable temperatures (19-33°C) which will be further trapping pollutants, potentially worsening the situation on Diwali night.
