Flood alerts have been issued for parts of Cornwall as an 18-hour weather warning arrives. The Environment Agency (EA) has said flooding is possible in four areas from today (Tuesday, November 4).

The alerts, which warn of possible flooding, are in place across the south Cornwall coast from Penzance to Looe. Where the alerts have been issued, the EA has warned locals to avoid coastal roads, footpaths, and carparks as they may flood.

People have been warned that flooding is most likely to occur during high tides this afternoon (November 4) and tomorrow (November 5). While the Met Office's yellow warning for rain remains in place until 6am tomorrow morning, the EA has stated that flooding is possible during high tides until Friday, November 7.

Forecasters at the Devon-based Met Office has said torrential, widespread rain is likely to bring large, powerful waves along the coast. At Porthleven, waves are expected to reach 2.5 metres high, and there is a "very high likelihood of injury in or near the sea".
