Dillon Danis seems set to end his lengthy spell away from MMA in 2025.
Conor McGregor's long-time teammate and friend hasn't fought in any sport since being disqualified when he made his professional boxing debut against Logan Paul in October 2023.
However, his hiatus from MMA dates all the way back to 2018 when he won his second Bellator fight.
The 2-0 prospect has been sidelined ever since due to a knee injury that took years to properly heal.
On Friday, Global Fight League announced a bunch of big names had been added to their fighter roster.
Dillon Danis would've been the most high-profile of them all if the new MMA league didn't shock everyone by also claiming former interim UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson has signed with them.
"@dillondanis signs with the Global Fight League. #MMA #GFL #USA," GFL wrote on Instagram alongside a graphic featuring the controversial former BJJ star.
Danis hasn't officially confirmed his return to MMA, but it has been ratified by the reporter Mike Bohn.
He tweeted: "Dillon Danis has signed with GFL and will be eligible as part of tonight's inaugural draft for 2025, I've confirmed with sources following the promotion's announcement."
GFL was recently accused of jumping the gun when it comes to announcing new signings. After two of their fighters were linked with a move to the new UFC rival, OKTAGON issued a statement shutting down the rumors.
It read: "In response to questions regarding the possible move of our fighters to another organization, we confirm that Andreas Michailidis and Mateusz Duczmal are under a long-term, exclusive contract with our organization. We declare the information currently circulating online to be false."
Paige VanZant is set to make her MMA comeback after agreeing to join GFL and return to the sport that made her famous for the first since since 2020.
The former UFC star is their marquee signing, but the new promotion has picked up a bunch of other big names, with Tyron Woodley, Luke Rockhold, Benson Henderson, Anthony Pettis, Andrei Arlovski, Frank Mir, Fabricio Werdum, and Junior dos Santos all on their roster.
Other GFL stars include Wanderlei Silva, Alex Gustafsson, Hector Lombard, Thiago Santos, Kevin Lee, Jeremy Stephens, Marlon Moraes, Gegard Mousasi, Greg Hardy, Robelis Despaigne, Bubba Jenkins, Tanner Boser, Philipe Lins, and Will Brooks.
The GFL has a unique team-based concept that will see hundreds of fighters divided into six squads.
On Friday, GFL will hold its inaugural draft. The new promotion has been praised for its promise of a 50/50 revenue split, as well as fighter retirement and insurance funds - but not everyone is happy with their approach.
