Buccaneers Defensive Captain Speaks Out on Hardest Offenses to Battle

Buccaneers Defensive Captain Speaks Out on Hardest Offenses to Battle originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have seen plenty of elite offenses over the last few years. Despite a down-year for the defense in 2024, they have held their own against most of them.

That doesn't mean they aren't a challenge to go up against, though.

Speaking on the Mina Kimes show, Buccaneers veteran linebacker Lavonte David broke down some of the more challenging offenses to face, and why they are so difficult to defend.

"Liam Coen, going against him. Dave Canales." Lavonte said. "Sean McVay (Rams) obviously. That whole tree. Shanahan, you know all those guys."

A big reason why David doesn't like facing off against those coaches? The use of pre and post-snap motion that has defenders constantly moving and thinking on the field.

"Having guys move in every place, so you've got to be able to get lined up when you're in a certain defense so you don't get outleveraged," David explained. "You don't want to get outflanked when going against those guys, because they can hurt you big time."

In the case of Canales (Panthers) and Coen (Jaguars), they were Tampa Bay's two previous offensive play-callers. David knows how special both were to the team's success.

If the Buccaneers want to get back to title contention, though, they will need to have answers for all that motion. David, as a seasoned veteran, is more than prepared for another year of that, though.

He hopes the rest of the Buccaneers defense will be as well.
