May 30 -- GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Elise Roberts is officially one of the eight best tennis players in the state.
Roberts, a junior for the Jamestown High School tennis team, has advanced to the final round of the 2025 NDHSAA Tennis State Tournament.
She has certainly earned her right to be in the finals.
On Friday, Roberts, the No. 8 seed out of the West Region, started the day with a match against top-seeded Sarea Gu of West Fargo Sheyenne. Gu dispatched Roberts 6-1, 6-0 sending her to the consolation bracket.
Roberts rose to the challenge, defeating Grand Forks Central's Hawi Lemu 6-3, 4-6, 10-7. Roberts secured a spot in the finals due to an injury default by Alyssa Sommerfeld of West Fargo Horace.
Roberts' finals round is set to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday with a match against Georgia Zaun of Valley City.
Ethan Oettle ended his junior baseball season with style.
Down 2-0 against West Fargo Horace, Oettle let loose on a pitch by Horace's Carson Borchardt to earn his second home run of the year and cut the Hawks' lead to one.
Unfortunately, the dinger wasn't enough to get to Saturday.
The Blue Jays dropped 11-1 to West Fargo Horace in Friday's consolation semifinal, signaling the end of the Jays' 2025 prep baseball season. Jamestown went 0-2 at the 2025 NDHSAA State Baseball Tournament this weekend.
"We had a great season," JHS head coach Tim Ranum said. "The team played well the last two days but just didn't swing the bats well enough against two really high quality arms."
Thomas Newman was able to throw two innings before shoulder discomfort forced him to leave the game. The senior allowed four runs -- one earned -- off three hits. Newman walked four and retired one. Zach Gaiser and Cayleb Miller closed out the pitching game. Gaiser entered in the third while Miller pitched the final 1.2 innings.
Oettle's dinger was one of two hits by the Jays. Bennett Goehner 1-for-2 at the plate.
Jamestown finished out the year at 13-7 in the West Region and 17-12 overall. The Jays will lose four players, Newman, Derek Hatlewick, Braxton Perkins and Jaxon Kolpin, to graduation.
"I'm pleased with this group and thankful for our seniors and their leadership and the direction the program is headed in," Ranum said. "I'm also excited to see how our returning players grow and develop."

"As a coach I am extremely proud of this group," JHS head coach Colton Altringer said. "The amount of success we had was not a surprise at all. The girls battled and fought hard all season long."
The Blue Jays earned the No. 3 seed out of the West Region, posting a 9-4-3 regular season record. Overall, the squad finished the year at 9-6-3.
"It is frustrating that the entire season ended the way it did over the last two days," Altringer said. "However, the team is still growing. The team's dynamic is with our youth and that is encouraging.
"I know that many people hoped for success this weekend, but I still believe that the groups future is bright," he said. "The road has been extremely rocky with our last three trips to state, but I firmly believe that the future pay off will be huge."
