Heerema Marine Contractors has appointed Marcel de Nooijer as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective January 1, 2026. Pieter Heerema took up the position as interim CEO after Philippe Barril resigned in October 2024.
De Nooijer brings over three decades of broad managerial experience in the aviation industry, a sector that, much like offshore energy, demands the highest standards of safety, operates with significant capital investments, and delivers complex projects in a highly international environment. This background provides a strong foundation for leading Heerema Marine Contractors as the company continues to play a pivotal role in the global energy transition.
'I'm honored to join Heerema Marine Contractors as of January 1, 2026,' says De Nooijer. 'After three decades in the aviation industry, I look forward to applying my leadership and strategic experience in the dynamic and international offshore energy sector. HMC's focus on innovative offshore solutions and delivering long-term value for clients and stakeholders is truly motivating, and I am eager to contribute to the company's continued growth and success.'

In June 2022, Heerema's then Chief Transition Officer Barril took up the position of CEO after Koos-Jan van Brouwershaven had announced to leave the company. In October 2024, the company and Barril decided to part ways. Pieter Heerema took up the role of interim CEO upon his departure.
Heerema: 'We welcome Marcel as CEO of Heerema Marine Contractors. With his proven leadership and international experience, I am confident that he will successfully guide our company into the future. Until January 1, I will continue in my role as interim CEO of Heerema Marine Contractors and will support him during the transition after January 1.'
