Giorgi Chakvetadze will need time to rediscover top form as he works his way back to full fitness, says Watford head coach Javi Gracia.
Chakvetadze was left out of the Gracia's starting XI at Wrexham last week, appearing off the bench in the second half, and has still not hit the level that saw him light up Vicarage Road at stages of last season since his return from injury.
The Georgian is set to play a key role over the festive period, though, with Gracia outlining that he sees him primarily as a left-sided player.
The head coach said: "It was a technical decision last week.
"Giorgi is a very good player but he needs time to feel better and to give his best level.
"We know that but we don't have any doubt about his quality and that will help the team in the next games.
"In my opinion, Giorgi's best position is as a left-winger.
"My decision on where every player plays is not only about one player, though, it's about all 11.
"When you decide the line-up, you have to find the balance knowing not only the characteristics of one player but all of them."

Chakvetadze could line up against Stoke City alongside Othmane Maamma, who has made a dramatic impression on both flanks since coming into the team last month.
Maamma was closer to selection for Morocco's African Cup of Nations squad, missing out on the final cut, and has scored twice in his last four games.
Having featured on the left and the right at various times, his versatility will continue to be utilised.
Gracia said: "Maamma can play both sides. Sometimes it's better to be more aggressive on one side, to help us defend more or attack more with the balance.
"We can see in the games Maamma has played well on both sides and it's not a problem for me which one he plays."
