Corn dog recall hits 4M pounds as wood in batter prompts injury reports

Foster Poultry Farms, LLC has expanded its recall of corn dog products to nearly 4 million pounds due to the potential contamination of wood pieces inside the batter.

The expansion, announced on Oct. 17, adds 118,098 pounds of "Whole Grain Chicken Corn Dog Whole Grain Wrapped Chicken Franks on a Stick Lower Fat," to the recall list, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The products involved in the overall recall were produced between July 30, 2024 through Aug. 4 of this year and were shipped to retail and institution locations nationwide, including to the Department of Defense, schools and the USDA Commodity Foods donations.

The issue was discovered after the department received a consumer complaint involving an injury of someone eating one of the corn dogs. Since then, five other complaints involving injuries have been reported.

Officials are concerned that some customers may still have these corn dogs inside their refrigerators and freezers.

"Consumers and institutions who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them," the USDA said in a statement. "These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase."

In total, Foster Poultry Farms is recalling roughly 3,961,138 pounds of chicken corn dog products, the USDA said.
