Contract health workers stage protest in Hyderabad | Hyderabad News - The Times of India

Hyderabad: Demanding the repeal of the online mode of working to reduce work pressure, dozens of contract workers and security staff working from various health departments staged a protest on Monday. The contractual employees, most of whom were auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs), protested in front of the office of the Commissioner, Health and Family Welfare, Koti.M Narasimha, deputy general secretary of the Telangana United Medical & Health Employees Union (TUMHEU), alleged that many workers are suffering from psychological disorders and health complications such as high and low blood pressure, diabetes, spondylitis and vision problems."The online system, which was introduced in 2016 with just two applications, has now expanded to about 14 mobile applications. Around 20 to 30 columns have to be filled in mobile applications. Moreover, the ANMs must screen each individual and upload the data online, which takes about half an hour per person. They have been given a target of doing a non-communicable disease (NCD) survey for 35% of the total population, and they are facing serious difficulties while doing offline work on one side and online work on the other," Narasimha explained. He added that another prime concern is the regularisation of contractual ANMs, particularly those who have been in service for about 20 to 25 years now. Moreover, the ANMs alleged that the govt is avoiding resolving the pending issues, such as regular payment, bills, special grade increments, promotions, and other problems faced by ANMs.
