Bolton Kin Santa Claus Parade returns for 52nd year

Santa Claus will be returning to Bolton yet again this year as Bolton Kin hosts their annual Santa Claus parade for the 52nd time.

The parade will ring in the Christmas season on December 6 at 11 a.m., and will follow a route from Queensgate Boulevard to Centennial Drive along Regional Road 50.

This year's parade will feature 11 bands and more 50 parade entries - a significant growth from their first year, which John Stegeman, member of the Bolton Kin, remarks had only two bands and 20 floats.

This year, he adds, the parade is returning to its roots, featuring a high amount of community involvement.

Various community groups, sports teams, schools, churches, and more have signed up to take part, which Stegeman says is the return of the community to the parade.

He says that, over time, they noticed a decline in community group participation, but this year it's a welcome return.

More than 12 of this year's entries involve youth in the community, whether they're representing their school or teams with pride.

This year's 11 bands include four from surrounding high schools, as well as the York Lions, who have appeared in every parade for the past 52 years.

"Thanks to Mayor Annette Groves for her efforts in helping to raise funds for the bands and the road closures," notes Stegeman.

For parade staging, Queensgate Boulevard from Regional Road 50 to Sant Farm Road will be closed from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Landsbridge Road from Queensgate Boulevard to Wood Circle will be closed from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Regional Road 50 from Healey Road to Columbia Way will also be closed from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm.

All closures are reported to have the possibility of being opened earlier.

For those unable to make the parade this year, have no fear of missing out on the holiday cheer: Rogers TV will be on site recording the event, which will also feature two emcees reading biographies of parade entries.
