Vietnamese retailers are cutting the prices of the iPhone 17 Pro Max for the first time two months after its launch as the supply situation eases.
The 256GB cosmic orange version is being sold at VND37.79 million (US$1,432) by Di Dong Viet, 0.5% less than its launch price, while the 2TB version is down 1.6% to VND63 million, according to its website.
"At this time the iPhone 17 Pro Max accounts for about 75% of sales across the new iPhone lineup," Van Thi Ngoc Yen, director of Apple devices at Di Dong Viet, was quoted as saying by Dan Tri newspaper.
"Supply has stabilized, and units are available for customers to buy immediately without waiting."
But only the cosmic orange version is discounted, and not the silver and deep blue colors.
Retailers say the silver iPhone has become the preferred choice, a shift in preference among consumers who had mostly sought the cosmic orange version when Apple first launched this year's lineup in mid-September.
Another retailer, Minh Tuan Mobile, reported high demand for the 256GB silver version, and stocks are not available for immediate purchase. The company is planning to order more from the manufacturer.
The 17 Pro and Pro Max have a larger camera module than last year's 16 Pro and Pro Max, and have switched from titanium to aluminum.
On launch day on Sep. 18 the 256GB cosmic orange model sold out within minutes followed by the silver variant, while the deep blue model attracted less attention.
