Some members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) from Kano State have dismissed reports alleging plans to defect from the party, describing the claims as false, malicious and politically motivated.
In a joint statement issued on Friday and read by Garba Diso on behalf of the lawmakers, the group reaffirmed their "total and unwavering loyalty" to the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya Movement, insisting that no member is contemplating leaving the party.
The statement was jointly signed by Dr Ghali Mustapha Tijjani; Rabi'u Yusuf; Abdulhakeem Kamilu Ado; Hassan Muhammad Danjuma; Muhammad Bello Shehu; Datti Yusuf and Sani Wakili.
Others are DanKawu Idris; Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe; Hassan Hussain; Mukhtar Umar Yarima and Muhammed Garba Chiroma.
"Our attention has been drawn to false and malicious reports circulating across the social media and other platforms, alleging that we, the Kwankwasiya lawmakers in the Green Chamber, are planning to defect to other political parties.
"We categorically debunk these unfounded rumours and urge the general public, our supporters and well-meaning Nigerians to disregard such misleading claims. These rumours are nothing but the handiwork of political detractors who are threatened by the growing influence, unity and resilience of the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya family," the lawmakers stated.
They noted that interactions with colleagues across party lines were part of their legislative responsibilities and should not be misinterpreted as a signal of disloyalty. According to them, bipartisan engagement remains crucial for national development.
Reaffirming their commitment to the ideology of the Kwankwasiya Movement, the members said they remained steadfast in pursuing justice, equity, inclusiveness and people-centered governance.
