Antoine Semenyo about to get Liverpool transfer audition after huge Mohamed Salah exit claim - Liverpool Echo

Last term, the winger managed 11 goals and six assists for the Cherries across 37 appearances in the English top-flight, leaving a number of Premier League rivals interested in snapping him up. That list, ultimately, included Liverpool, who instead opted strengthen their attacking options with the likes of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak.

But with Semenyo managing six goals and three assists for Bournemouth this season already, too, and Mohamed Salah's future at Anfield recently being cast into huge doubt, the Reds may choose to reignite their interest. It is also understood that Semenyo's current contract, which he only signed this summer, includes a £65million release clause, leaving the star's fate in Liverpool's hands should they choose to pursue him at market value.

And the 25-year-old will have quite the platform to dazzle Arne Slot and the Liverpool hierarchy in January, when the club travel to the Vitality Stadium on January 24 to meet Bournemouth. A stellar performance in that match might deem Semenyo too hot of a prospect to pass up, especially given he has already proven problematic for the Reds this season.

The two sides met in a seasonal opener back in August, with Liverpool ultimately running out 4-2 winners due to goals from Ekitike, Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa and Salah, no less. However, Semenyo managed to find the score-sheet twice on the night, proving his worth under Andoni Iraola.

It comes as Liverpool might now be on the lookout for a new forward when the January transfer window bursts open at the turn of the New Year, given Salah's damning assessment of his relationship with Slot on Saturday evening. The Reds threw away a 2-0 lead to Leeds United at Elland Road to be held to a 3-3 draw by the recently-promoted side, in a game which Salah was demoted to the bench for the third game in a row.

After failing to make it on to the pitch for the game, Salah told a scrum of reporters - including from The ECHO - that Liverpool's clash with Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, December 13 might well be his last match for Slot's team.

He said: "I don't know what to say. It's kind of funny, I couldn't believe it. It's a disappointing result for us as a team. We conceded silly goals. I could not help my team-mates, because I am on the bench.

"I could not believe I was sitting on the bench for 90 minutes. That's the third time. It's the first time in my career I think. I am very disappointed, I have done so much for this club over years, especially last season, It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus.

"That's how I feel it. Someone wants me to get all the blame. The club promised me a lot in summer. Now, I'm on bench so I can say they haven't kept those promises.

"I used to have a good relationship (with Slot). Now we don't have any relationship - and I don't know why. Seems like someone does not want me in the club. I called my mum and dad and told them to come to the Brighton game.

"It doesn't matter if I play or not. I'm going to enjoy it. I am just going to be at Anfield and say goodbye to the fans before the Africa Cup of Nations, because I don't know what is going to happen when I am there.

"It's not acceptable to me to be fair. If I was somewhere else, every club would protect its players. Now it's; 'Throw Mo under the bus because he is a problem in a team'.

"I don't think I am a problem. I am not fighting for my position every day, because I have earned it. I am not bigger than the club. I am not bigger than anything. But I've earned it."
